The Chico Basin Ranch is located on the high prairie of Colorado, about 25 miles from Colorado Springs. Leased by Duke and Janet Phillips and their family on a 25-year term that started in November, 1999. The range is comprised of shortgrass and sandsage prairie grass, meandering creeks throughout the ranch, and ponds, lakes and pools which support wildlife populations of birds, pronghorn antelope, deer, trout, coyotes, prairie dogs, and badgers.
The ranching tradition, coupled with an innovative business strategy comprise the backbone of the Chico Basin Ranch operation. The ranch has recreational, educational and outreach programs that are integral to building a stable ranch business that can survive in unexpected market and climatic changes.
