Agriculture in Oregon?
I am looking for an opportunity in agriculture to change my major for my Bachelor of Science degree. I moved to Oregon from California and have worked in the dairy industry since I was 15 years old. I know there’s a market for agriculture in California, but does anyone know if there’s a market for dairy farms or beef cattle ranches in Oregon? If I want to start one or the other, what is the best way to get started after I move? In search of answers and web links for info …. Thanks
There are opportunities for dairy farming, cattle ranching and owning your own place in Oregon. One of the best steps you can take at this time is to lay out a Plan for what it takes to get started, then contact the best Ag School in that state for further information on locations, costs associated, and possible further education. Then determine what kind of financing it will take, and follow that up with finding a bank or lending institution that is accustomed to making loans to ranchers and farmers.
Milk production is Oregon’s fourth highest Agricultural commody and beef is prevalent on the eastern half of the state.
